Charles Spencer affirmed that Diana suffered worse media intrusion than what Kate Middleton is currently being subjected.

In a conversation with Laura Kuenssberg on her BBC show, the brother of the late princess broke silence on the comparisons between the former and current Princess of Wales in the light of media witch hunt surrounding Kate’s whereabouts.

When asked if he believes the press has become more potent with the uprise of social media in recent years, the Earl said, “No, I think it was more dangerous back in the day.”

The late mother of Prince William and Prince Harry died in a tragic car crash while trying to escape the swarm of paparazzi in Paris in 1997.

The former Viscount Althorpe explained that the “shocking circumstances” around Diana’s death prompted the British media to draw back and contemplate the consequences of their actions.

“I think, if I look back to ’97 and Diana’s death, I think that was so shocking too – the circumstances of her death were so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn’t do.

“Not because they had a moral judgement, but because it was unacceptable to the public,” Charles added.
