Deepalakshmi cautioned that consuming too much can cause the body to produce too many oxalates, which could prevent the body from absorbing iron. To combat this, iron bioavailability can be increased by combining spinach juice with vitamin C-rich foods like oranges or lemon juice. She suggested drinking spinach juice three to four times a week, in moderation.
For best results, blend spinach rather than juice it to preserve the fibre, which aids with digestion and increases feelings of fullness. Its nutritional profile can be further improved by combining it with other alkaline and hydrating components like celery or cucumber, she noted. Additionally, Deepalakshmi cautioned against combining spinach juice with dairy since calcium can impede the absorption of iron.
