Justin Simien mourned that Landi did not move forward in the production

Justin Simien recently expressed his sorrow over the cancellation of the Solo: A Star Wars Story spinoff series, Lando.

In a conversation with Collider, Lando was broght up during the promotion of Hollywood Black, an MGM+ docuseries based on scholar Donald Bogle’s book.

“It was pretty developed,” Simien recalled Lando. “There was a Bible. There was concept art. There were scripts. But it just wasn’t meant to be.”

“For me, it has to be done pretty straight on,” reflecting on his feelings about the shelved project, Simien admitted, “Like, ‘I am in grief. I do not feel good.’ I have to let myself feel those feelings.”

“There’s so much that I experience that I get to keep forever and take into the next project,” he explained, radiating a optimistic outlook. “I can’t obviously take the storyline or the IP or the characters, but there’s so much more that I got, as a maker, and that’s mine.”

“Sorry, it’s too late, you can’t take that part back,” he added, reflecting on the cancellatin of Lando, which was first announced in 2020.

While the reasons behind Lando‘s halt remain unclear, Simien is not dwelling on the past. He has exciting new projects on the horizon, including a forthcoming Star Trek series starring Tawny Newsome.
